S Sreesanth, the controversial Indian right-arm swing bowler. The star of the 2007 T20 World Cup and the 2011 ODI World Cup. Has decided to put an end to his 20 years of cricketing career. The 39-year old has represented his national team 90 times across all three formats and was lucky to take 169 international wickets.
S Sreesanth decided to take retirement and announced it on Twitter. He said that he has chosen to end his first-class cricket career to give chance to the next generation of cricketers. He said that this is his decision alone.
Sreesanth also said that he is retiring from Indian first-class cricket with sadness but without regret. Sreesanth expressed his feelings and stated that it was his privilege to represent the Indian National Team.
This decision has brought down the curtains on the career that was just restarted after the lift of a lifetime ban on Sreesanth from playing cricket. He was one of the three Rajasthan Royals to be involved in the 2013 IPL spot-fixing scandal.
In 2019, the Supreme Court considered his sentence. With this BCCI reduced his ban to seven years which ended in September 2020. By this Sreesanth was eligible to play domestic cricket once again.
Sreesanth then represented the state team of Kerala in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy and Vijay Hazare Trophy in 2021. He even registered himself in the mega auction of IPL 2022. But unfortunately, no one was interested in him and he went unsold. Later he returned to the Ranji Trophy in the 2022 edition and announced his retirement.
Sreesanth finished his domestic career with 213 wickets in 74 games. Whereas his List-A career ended with 124 wickets in 92 matches In October 2005 Sreesanth made his debut in an ODI against Sri Lanka. He was successful to take 75 wickets in 53 ODI matches. Sreesanth also represented Indian national team in 27 test matches and took 87 wickets and in T20. He represented India 10 times and picked 7 wickets.
